European project POSITIVE


European project POSITIVE (maintaining and imPrOving the intrinSIc capaciTy Involving primary care and caregiVErs) funded by EIT Health is being implemented at the Clinic of Geriatrics, headed by Prof. Tomasz Kostka MD, PhD. Prof. Leocadio Rodríguez-Mañas (SERMAS, Spain) is the project coordinator. The project main objective is to provide both patients and medical care specialists with the tools to facilitate treatment and prevent frailty syndrome.

In 2020 three European centres (SERMAS in Spain, Karolinska Institutet in Sweden, Medical University of Lodz in Poland,) will implement the experimental stage of the project. The list of project partners also includes ATOS Spain S.A., UPM (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), KTH (Kungliga Tekniska Högskolan). POSITIVE is a multicentre, randomized, prospective pilot study with a single blind trial. 150 participants together with their 150 carers/relatives will be recruited. Potential participants from the area of Lodz will be recruited from primary health care centres, the Outpatient Clinic of Geriatrics and the University of the Third Age. They will be divided into control and intervention groups. The intervention group will have their intrisic capacity monitored by means of remote montoring system.

Moreover, the project also includes education for the elderly and their relatives as well as for medical care specialists. Educational contents regarding frailty syndrome and related issues will also be encompassed in multimedia application for the project participants.
