FIRST WINNERS IN MINIATURA 8


We know the names of the first winners of MINIATURA 8 call for a single scientific research announced by NSC on February 1, 2024.   

Grants for scientific research went to two researchers from our university:  Aleksandra Tarasiuk MD PhD (Department of Biochemistry) and Michał Panek MD PhD (Department of Internal Diseases, Asthma and Allergy).

The aim of MINIATURA call is to finance research activities conducted for the purpose of future research project to be submitted under an NSC call or other domestic and international calls for proposals. The funds of PLN  5 000 up to PLN 50 000 can be obtained for a research project o be implemented within up to 12 months. 

 

Project title: Assessment of MAP kinase pathway activation by estimation of JNK1/2, p44, and SMAD 1/5 proteins phosphorylation by immunoblotting on the HEK293T cell line after blocking TGFBRI/TGFBRII receptors with an in silicodesigned peptide inhibitor   

 Research project type: initial/pilot study at the Medical University of Lodz   

The researcher: Michał Gabriel Panek MD PhD 

Funds: PLN 48 963,00 

A graduate at the Faculty of Medicine, Medical University of Lodz, a holder of habilitowany PhD degree in medical sciences, an academic teacher, a professor at the Department of  Internal Diseases, Asthma and Allergy, Department II of Internal Diseases MUL, a specialist in internal diseases and pulmonary diseases, a senior assistant at N. Barlicki University Clinical Hospital No. 1 in Lodz. 

A beneficiary of numerous Awards of the Rector of the Medical University of Lodz for scientific and teaching achievements and a winner of training and research grants. A member of national and international scientific societies: European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, American Academy of Allergy Asthma and Immunology, American Thoracic Society, Polish Society of Lung Diseases and Polish Society of Allergology. A participant and a lecturer at numerous national and international scientific conferences. The author of over 130 scientific papers and  several chapters in books.  

His interdisciplinary research interests include basic and non-surgical clinical research in molecular biology, biochemistry, genetics, pulmonology, allergology, clinical immunology and psychiatry with elements of clinical psychology. The research he conducts focuses on the genetic and psychopathological determinants of chronic obstructive pulmonary syndromes, with particular emphasis on molecular markers which determine the phenotypes of selected disease entities. 

 


Research project title: ITD1, selective TGFβ receptor inhibitor, in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma treatment: in vitro study 

Research project type: initial/pilot study  

The researcher: Aleksandra Elżbieta Tarasiuk MD PhD 

Funds: PLN 49 995,00 

She obtained her PhD degree in medical sciences in the Department of Biochemistry Medical University of Lodz in 2022. Currently she works as an assistant professor at the same university. 

The aim of her research is to identify, describe and validate  anti-inflammatory and anticancer drugs in the context of pancreatic diseases. She is also interested in new molecular mechanisms that can be targeted at the treatment of gastrointestinal diseases, in inflammatory bowel diseases in particular. Her research focuses on functional and inflammatory disorders of the digestive tract; she uses in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo models of gastrointestinal diseases. 

Kościuszko Foundation scholarship holder in 2019. H-index=7, IF~96.
