MUL builds Center of Molecular Studies on Civilisation Diseases. MOLecoLab funding agreement signed.

MOLecoLAB Project involves the construction of a modern passive building in the Campus of Clinical and Didactic Centre of Medical University of Lodz. A top-grade complex of research and development  laboratories for chemical and biological analyses will occupy about 4.500 square metres.

On April 23, 2019 MUL Chancellor, Jacek Grabowski MD, PhD  and the Manager of Entrepreneur Service Centre, Krzysztof Szewczyk signed an agreement for the investment to be funded from Regional Operational Program for Lodzkie. The project budget amounts to 60 million PLN, including 41.6 million from ROP for Lodz and MUL’s own contribution of 18.4 million.

MOLecoLAB is not only unique  because of the research to be conducted there. The project is consistent with EcoUMED, MUL’s policy of sustainable development. We invest in „green” infrastructure and energy-saving solutions. We want Didactic and Clinical Centre to be a “green campus” and thereby a structure which is friendly to the environment, students, employees and Lodz inhabitants, says Jacek Grabowski, MUL Chancellor.

MOLecoLAB has been designed as a complex of laboratory modules divided according to their functions:

  • laboratory module of  civilisation diseases metabolomics
  • laboratory module of the assessment of medication safety
  • laboratory module of the assessment of biocompatibility and safety of materials used in protheses, stents and implants

The laboratories will be engaged in carrying out research and development schemes, designing innovation products and diagnostics & therapeutic services as well as undertaking cooperation with national and international industries. The project involves specialists in genetics, biochemistry, biophysics, microbiology and parasitology, pharmacology, mechatronics, bioinformatics and medical consultants. The aim of the project is to consolidate the university research and development potential and to create further opportunities to conduct interdisciplinary research.

The project was implemented in the last quarter of 2018 and is planned to  be completed at the end of 2021.
