MUL RESEARCHERS’ PUBLICATION SUCCESS


We are glad to report another publication success achieved by our researchers. A scientific paper by Waldemar Wagner PhD (IMB PAS), Katarzyna Sobierajska MD PhD (MUL), Łukasz Pułaski PhD (UL, IMB PAS), Anna Stasiak MD PhD (MUL) and Wojciech Ciszewski MD PhD(MUL) was published in a top-tier scientific journal on nutrition, functional food and food safety (IF 11,208, MES points 200): Critical Reviews in Food Science and Nutrition.

 

The paper entitled Whole grain metabolite 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid is a beneficial nutritional molecule with the feature of a double-edged sword in human health: a critical review and dietary considerations (DOI:10.1080/10408398.2023.2203762) is the outcome of the collaboration of researchers from the Institute of Medical Biology of PAS, the University of Lodz and the Medical University of Lodz. The paper concerns the regulation of carcinogenesis by regulation of lactate receptor HCAR1, with the focus on the role played by whole-grain cereal-derived 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid, the agonist of the HCAR1, in a multitude of physiological conditions in humans. The authors also draw attention to numerous reports on the role of 3,5-dihydroxybenzoic acid in carcinogenesis, which poses further enquiries concerning the importance of non-processed foodstuffs of plant origin in the diet of oncological patients.
