MUL’S COMPETITION TO SUPORT YOUNG RESEARCHERS

In June 2023 The Medical University of Lodz announced another initiative designed to support individual research career development for young researchers and PhD students. This year’s competition was linked to MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship grants, and the participation was tantamount to declaration of application for  MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship grant in collaboration with a foreign supervisor.

Here is the list of winners of the first edition of the competition:

  • Agata Rolnik PhD in biology,
  • Bartłomiej Sołtysik MD PhD,
  • Małgorzata Chmielewska-Kassassir MA Eng.

The granted funds shall be used as bonus salaries and shall cover the collaboration expenses. Additionally, the International Projects Team, which is the initiative coordinator, offers full support in the search for a host entity and an overseas supervisor.

On Oct 17, 2023, the successful researchers were congratulated on their victory by Prof. Radzisław Kordek, MUL Rector and  Prof. Lucyna Woźniak, Vice-Rector for Research Strategy and International Relations.

Congratulations!

Agata Rolnik PhD in biology

Aan employee at Department of Structural Biology as  a scientific research specialist and at BRaIn Metabolic Research Laboratory. As part of the grant, her collaboration with the Centre for Metabolomics and Bioanalysis at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of San Pablo will enable her to broaden her theoretical knowledge and gain experience in gas and liquid chromatography research. This, in turn, should facilitate more extensive research conducted at the Metabolic Research Laboratory in future.

Bartłomiej Sołtysik MD PhD

Bartłomiej Sołtysik has been an employee at the Department of Geriatrics since 2014, he defended his PhD dissertation on oxidative stress, cardiovascular risk and functional efficiency in seniors under the supervision of Prof. Tomasz Kostka in 2019. He is an author and co-author of papers on nutrition, positive ageing and multimorbidity in geriatric populations. Currently his research is related to pharmacotherapy in geriatric population with regard to patient nutrition, cognitive and functional performance as well as the search for the underlying factors of successful ageing. B. Sołtysik will collaborate Prof. Elisio Costa at the University of Porto.

Małgorzata Chmielewska-Kassassir MA Eng.

She is an academic teacher and a researcher at the Department of Structural Biology headed by Prof. Lucyna Woźniak. She specialises in cell culture, cell biology analysis, chemical extraction and analysis of compounds of natural origin. She has been honing her skills in metabolomic profiling using liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. In her international collaboration with the research team of Carla Ferreri at the Institute of Organic Synthesis and Photoreactivity, (ISOF, Bologna, Italy) she will conduct research into lipodomic changes to lipid membranes associated with mitochondria, peroxisomes and exo/oncosomes, in order to monitor dynamics of cancer progression and verify the biological activity of plant extracts.
