Nearly 190 million zlotys for the development of UMED. Grand opening of the U1 Teaching Support Centre

On 22 September 2026, a closing ceremony for the programme was held at the Clinical and Teaching Centre campus of the Medical University of Łódź ‘PRU UMED – Improving study conditions at the Medical University of Łódź through the construction, extension, modernisation and refurbishment of the University’s facilities, with the aim of increasing student numbers on medical degree programmes’ and the official opening of the U1 Teaching Support Centre.

The event brought together representatives of central and local government and the academic community, the university’s partners, and those involved in the programme’s implementation. The Rector of the Medical University of Łódź welcomed the guests, emphasising the importance of the investment for the development of modern medical education and for further strengthening the university’s potential.

– The opening of the Teaching Support Centre marks the culmination of one of the most important investment programmes in the history of our University. Thanks to funding secured from the National Recovery Plan, we have created a modern space that will serve students, academic staff and future generations of healthcare professionals. This is an investment not only in infrastructure, but above all in the quality of education – emphasised the Rector, Prof. Janusz Piekarski

During the ceremony, MP Adrian Witczak and Senator Artur Dunin also took the floor, congratulating the University on the successful implementation of the programme and emphasising the importance of investment in the development of higher education and the healthcare system. In their speeches, they highlighted the role of modern teaching infrastructure in preparing future medical staff and the impact of such projects on the region’s development.

A key element of the event was a review of the outcomes of the “PRU UMED” programme, the total value of which amounted to nearly 190 million zlotys. As part of the project, a number of investments were carried out, including the construction, modernisation and equipping of the University’s teaching infrastructure, the development of modern technologies supporting the educational process, and the digitisation of selected areas of the University’s operations.

The programme’s largest investment is the U1 Teaching Support Centre, located on the campus of the Clinical and Teaching Centre. This modern facility was designed with the needs of contemporary academic education in mind. It houses teaching rooms, computer rooms, spaces for individual and group work, and areas designed to support student engagement.

During the ceremony, the most significant projects completed under the programme were also presented, including the teaching building at the Maria Konopnicka University Paediatric Centre, the development of the Medical Simulation Centre, the establishment of the Standardised Examination Centre, the modernisation of teaching infrastructure on the Muszyńskiego Street campus, and the upgrading of clinical units used in student education.

The highlight of the event was the symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony and the official opening of the U1 Teaching Support Centre. Afterwards, participants had the opportunity to tour the new building and familiarise themselves with its functionality and the opportunities it offers to students and staff at the University.
