The experience boasted of by the Military Medical Academy Memorial Teaching Hospital – Central Veterans’ Hospital – has been garnered for over 75 years.

During the occupation, the institution first served as a hospital for the German army and then as an evacuation hospital for forward units of the Soviet army. In June 1945, it was taken over by the Polish Army and soon after, took the name of the Teaching Hospital of the Health  Service Training Centre of the Polish Army.

In 1958, the Military Medical Academy was brought into life. The Hospital underwent a subsequent reorganisation, receiving the title of the Central Teaching Hospital of the Military Medical Academy. Its hospital wards obtained the status of departments.

In early 1996, the Hospital was separated from the structures of the Military Medical Academy, gaining financial independence, and began its activities based on new organisational principles. Later, in 2002, it was incorporated into the University structure by the establishment of the Medical University, as prescribed by the Act of the Polish Parliament.

The year 2006 saw the establishment of the Central Veterans’ Hospital. It is the only health service facility of this type offering medical services to all war veterans, regardless of their place of residence.

Since 2009, the Hospital has expanded due to planned consolidations with other clinical and non-academic health care entities. It provides a wide range of medical services, which are delivered in five locations. These include a range of departments and wards with a total number of 609 beds, as well as numerous outpatient clinics, diagnostic laboratories and offices of general medical practitioners.

The Military Medical Academy Memorial Teaching Hospital in Lodz is a highly specialist medical centre admitting patients from the Lodz Region, the rest of Poland and even from abroad. The most important specialities of hospital departments include Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Arthroscopy, Hand Surgery, Maxillo-Facial Surgery, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Neurology, Ophthalmology and Sight Rehabilitation, Cardiology, Urology, Gastroenterology, Internal Medicine, Anaesthesiology and Intensive Therapy, Otolaryngology and Laryngological Oncology, Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Dermatology and Venereology, Diabetology, Nephrology with Dialysis Station, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Neurological Rehabilitation, and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation.
